Like statements, we can also report questions in indirect speech.

We use reporting verbs ask, want to know, inquire etc for questions.

Note the following things when reporting a question. The question form (Verb + Subject…?) changes to a statement form (Subject + Verb ).

When it’s a Yes/ No question, we use if/ whether.

When it’s a wh- question, we retain the wh- part.

The tense of the reporting verb affects an indirect question as well.
