Grade 8 Grammar Lesson 9 The past continuous tense
What is the structure of past continuous tense?
When do we use the past continuous tense?
What is the difference between the past continuous tense and the simple past tense?
We use the past continuous tense for an action in the middle of happening at a certain time in the past. The action or situation had already started before this time but hadn’t finished.
We often use the past continuous together with the simple past to say that something happened in the middle of another action.
However, we use the simple past to say that one thing happened after another.
