Grade 8 Grammar Lesson 9 The past continuous tense (0)

We use the past continuous tense for an action in the middle of happening at a certain time in the past. The action or situation had already started before this time but hadn’t finished.

We often use the past continuous together with the simple past to say that something happened in the middle of another action.

However, we use the simple past to say that one thing happened after another.
