Grade 9 Grammar Lesson 2 Word order (1): Verb + object; place and time
Which comes first in a sentence: the verb or the place?
What comes first in a sentence: the time or the place?
Where do we add words like ‘always’, ‘seldom’ and ‘never’?
Normally, the verb and the object of the verb go together. We don’t put any other words between them.
The verb and the place (where?) go together.
If the verb has an object, the place comes after the verb + object.
Time (when?/how often?/how long?) often goes after place.
Time can be put at the beginning of the sentence.
Some time words like always/never/often/seldom etc usually go with the verb in the middle of the sentence.
