Grade 9 Grammar Lesson 43 Comparatives and superlatives (1)

  •  We form comparative and superlative degrees of Adjectives and Adverbs. Usually, adjectives with one syllable form their comparatives adding er; and est for superlatives.
  •  We also use er and est for two-syllabled adjectives that end in y. We replace y with i.
  •  For adjectives of more than two syllables, we add more and most
  •  For adverbs ending in ly we use more and most to form their comparatives and superlatives respectively.
  •  We can use either er/est or more/most with some two-syllabled adjectives especially quiet, clever, narrow, shallow, simple.
  •  Some adjectives and adverbs have irregular comparative and superlative forms.
