How do we form wh- questions?

Grade 8 Grammar Lesson 19 Wh- questions (0)

A question that begins in a wh- word is called a wh- question. We ask such questions for information.

Wh- words are who, what, whose, why, where, when and how.

Most wh- questions follow this structure:

Wh- + auxiliary + subject + main verb…?

When be is the main verb, it comes before the subject in wh- questions.

Sometimes, we may use a question phrase with what and how instead of a single wh- word. They include: What time, What kind/ sort of, What colour, How many, How much, How old, How long/ far, How often etc.
